1. Who was Pericles, and what were his goals for Athens?
Pericles was a statesman, who ruled over Athens from 495 - 429 B.C, or during the golden age of Athens. He had three main goals: strengthen Athenian democracy, hold and strengthen his empire and glorify Athens. Pericles used money from the Delian League to strengthen Athens navy, and he used the money to hire sculptors, artists and architects to beautify Athens. He died of the plague.
2. How is a direct democracy run?
Instead of a representative, all votes come directly from the people of Athens.

It was an alliance between the Greek city-states led by Athens formed in 478 BC, to liberate Greek City-states from Persian rule.
