Demograpic Transition Part 3
Khan Academy:
1) By the third stage, it was less useful to have children.
2) Many couples choose to further their careers than to have children.
3) Some religions can influence population growth.
Kim Smith:
1) People did not live very long in the first stage due to poor living conditions, illness and plagues, and other defining factors.
2) Children become less of an asset and more of a liability in stage 3. 3) There might be a theory for a demographic trap, that when a society becomes overwhelmed by population it goes back to stage one.
Why Populations Grow:
1) Japan has had a population declining since 2007 and is expected to lose over 21% of its population by the year 2050.
2) Almost all of Europe is slowly losing population if immigration was in play.
3) there is a period of time where the population of a country will continue to rise even though they aren't above the replacement rate.
The Khan Academy video was the most helpful for me because it was meant for a younger audience, unlike some of the other videos and it was made with detail and dedication. It also helped me visualize all 4 stages with the population pyramid.
